Why coffee works
A coffee date asks for an hour, not an evening. It's daylight or early evening, it's public, and if you get on, there's always a walk or dinner nearby. If you don't, you've lost forty minutes and gained a good coffee.
We're not going to list cafés: they change, and we'd rather not send you somewhere we haven't partnered with. These are the areas where you'll find good places to sit and talk.
Where to meet, area by area
Panampilly Nagar
A tree-lined avenue with cafés on both sides and a walkway down the middle. Central, easy to park, and the obvious first choice.
Fort Kochi
Cafés in old colonial buildings around Princess Street and the beach road. Combine it with the fishing nets at dusk.
Mattancherry
Small cafés between the galleries and antique shops of Jew Town. Good for a slower afternoon.
Kadavanthra and Girinagar
Quiet residential streets with a few good places to sit, a short ride from MG Road and Vyttila.
MG Road and Marine Drive
The busy centre. Coffee on or near MG Road, then a walk along the backwater.
Kakkanad and Infopark
If you both work in the IT parks, meet nearby straight after work and skip the drive into town.
Edappally and Palarivattom
Busy and well connected by the Metro. Practical if one of you lives north, towards Aluva.
Pick somewhere halfway
Kochi is spread out, and a coffee that takes one person ninety minutes to reach isn't a fair start. On Coffee at 6 you see a rounded distance, like “Within 2 km”, never where someone is, so you'll know roughly how far apart you are. Suggest an area between you, or one on the Metro line if either of you is commuting.
The Metro runs from Aluva through Edappally and MG Road to Vyttila and beyond, and the ferries and Water Metro make Fort Kochi and the islands easy without a car.
Time it right
Vyttila, Edappally and the Kakkanad roads are slow at rush hour. A coffee at six works best if you're meeting near work or near home, not across the city. On weekends, late morning is easy too.
Set a rough length when you make the plan: “coffee at six, I've got an hour”. It takes the pressure off, and you can always stay longer.
Make it a plan
On Coffee at 6 a coffee date is a plan: a time, a place you choose, and you both say yes. If you meet and check in together, you're Met on Coffee at 6. Partner cafés, where there are some near you, show up on your plan with a small offer for the two of you. Running a café in Kochi? Become a partner.
